ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The listening of podcasts has been growing in Spain for the last few months, becoming a space not only for entertainment and broadcasting, but also for fiction. In this workshop Manuel Bartual will show the creation process of his podcasts Biotopía and Santuario, we will see what kind of fiction we can approach in audio format and how to develop our own sound fiction with the means we have at our disposal.

MANUEL BARTUAL

Manuel Bartual has directed a couple of short films and a feature film (Todos tus secretos, winner of the CANAL+ Award for Best Film at the Málaga Film Festival), drawed comics (El Jueves), and written for El País and on Twitter. One of the stories he published on this platform became a worldwide trending topic, being read by hundreds of thousands of people. He also wrote the novel El otro Manuel (Planeta, 2018), created and directed together with Modesto García the reality show #ElGranSecuestro (RTVE, 2019) and the sound fiction series Biotopía (Podium Podcast, 2020) and Santuario (Audible, 2021), created and written together with Carmen Pacheco.

ABOUT BIOTOPIA

Biotopia is the story of a scientific community in which time, matter and space work in a strange way. It is a fictional series in podcast format written and directed by Manuel Bartual, and starring Nikki García, Xabi Tolosa, Ingrid García Jonsson, David Pareja, Paula Púa and Valeria Ros, among others. Its story extends beyond the podcast itself through the web, social networks and the Biotopía newsletter, giving shape to a transmedia universe that combines science fiction with comedy. After a first self-produced season in 2020, its second season arrived in 2021 with the production of Podium Podcast.
