Meeting… Andy Chichester. With Federico Pérez

In this edition more than ever we want to vindicate the Galician language and the people who decide to use and defend it in their day-to-day lives, and within those people, paleo-speakers and neo-speakers, we find curious cases like that of Andy Chichester, an American professor who decided to learn the language and start using it on his social networks, winning the affection of the Galician internet.

His commitment to our culture, despite not having any previous closeness, is one of the topics we want to talk about with Andy, who will travel from New York to Carballo to put his knowledge into practice and reflect on the role of language in our lives. All in a conversation in which he will be accompanied by actor Federico Pérez.

Andy Chichester

Andy, alias @Chibarinclub on X, has been spreading content in Galician on Instagram, Youtube and GaliX for four years. A lifelong philologist, Andy has a degree in Spanish, studies in French and Italian, and a deep passion for the Galician language. A self-taught neo-speaker since 2019, he is working hard to master Galician thoroughly. This Yankee with a Galician soul considers himself a proud defender and promoter of Galician and Galicia. A teacher for 33 years, he worked for 17 years as a Spanish language teacher, before switching to the specialization of early childhood education. He currently works as a kindergarten teacher at Norwood Norfolk School. Andy resides in Potsdam, NY USA with his wife Bonnie.

Federico Pérez

In his own words, Federico is “a philologist turned actor and I do what I can and what they let me do, which almost always coincides with what I want to do”. He monologues, he sings, he was in “Era Visto”, in “Padre Casares”, in “Rapa” and in some other series. He also did things in some movies: “Cuñados”, “As Bestas”, “O corpo aberto”… Even in web series. Well, that, as he says, “a little bit of everything”. And he has a dog. There is no better conductor for this conversation.
