Andy Chichester, the most beloved American by the Galician digital community, will visit Carballo Interplay

A home for Galician digital creation. That’s one of the definitions of Carballo Interplay, which in its 12th edition continues to champion Galician talent by programming podcasts and trending series in the region. This year, to be held from April 24th to 27th at the Carballo Market, it will also demonstrate how the Galician digital community knows no borders with a meeting with New York professor Andy Chichester, an “American with a Galician soul”, as he describes himself. Chichester fell in love with Galicia after a visit he made years ago, while a Spanish Philology student, and is one of the most beloved members of the Galician-speaking digital community, an example of an unusual defense of the language. On his X account, @chibarinclub, and on his YouTube channel, Mira Quen Fala Galego, he shares videos in which he discusses various topics in Galician. Carballo Interplay will be the venue for Chichester’s de-virtualization, traveling from the United States to speak with actor Federico Pérez about his experience as a neo-speaker and his commitment to Galician culture.

Carballo Interplay plays a vital role in Galicia in supporting and promoting emerging creators, as it has happened for instance with the video podcast O Faiado, a project created in 2023 by Journalism and Audiovisual communication students. Last year, they won the award for Best Digital Channel in Galician language and, that same year, the Youtubeiras Newcomer Award. They are now returning to the festival as a part of the Pro Zone, so the audience can enjoy the live recording of one of the community’s most trending video podcasts.

The first commercial Galician video game and a workshop on digital education are among the programming for Thursday, April 24.

The history of video games in Galicia, social and political satire, and digital education will be the focus of the programming for Thursday the 24th. During the morning, the audience, including schoolchildren and university students, will be able to attend the “Digital Self-Defense Kit” workshop with Fembloc, a space designed to highlight sexist tendencies online and offer tools to combat them. Topics such as online privacy, the control of intimate or private images, and how to respond in cases of control and surveillance will be covered. Students will learn to control the information they share and how to create secure passwords in an educational and easy-to-understand way.

For the first time, the Carballo Interplay will also explore the world of video games, a key area in the history of Galician audiovisual media, especially considering that Galicia is home to the first museum in Spain dedicated to its history, the MUVI, a project of the Galician Video Game Museum Foundation. At Interplay, video games will be recognized as a means of communication, expression, and creation, as well as an educational tool in the broadest sense of the word, in a panel that will also review their history in Galicia, focusing on The Wall, the region’s first commercial video game.

Web series will also have their place this day. First, with the screening of the first two episodes of Dieciocho, an RTVE production that breaks down prejudices about migrants. During the afternoon, the audience will be able to enjoy several works from the Official Section and the premiere of Delirio Sketches, the winning project in the last edition of the Galician Digital Content Production Award.

The day will conclude with a big dose of laughter thanks to Non Saímos do Lixo, a rising online phenomenon that will bring its sketches to life. The show will function as a comedy lab where some of its classics will be performed and new characters and sketches will be tested. Among its most famous faces are Denny Horror, Susana Sampedro, Cata Ukelele and Marta Doviro.

Facu Díaz and Miguel Maldonado, as well as the video podcast Keep it cutre, arrive in Galicia

Carballo Interplay has already published its shows programming. The duo formed by Facu Díaz and Miguel Maldonado will take over the festival’s regular section, “Rajando con…” on Friday night, with their genuine blend of political satire, humor, and improvisation. Another of Carballo Interplay’s regular shows is the CFA (Código Fonte Audiovisual), which this time will be presented by writer and screenwriter Bob Pop.

Also on Saturday, Ángela Henche and Albanta San Román, hosts of the podcast Keep it cutre, will be at the Carballo Market. This show, born from their everyday conversations with a great dose of humor, addresses issues related to the feelings of the millennial generation.

The housing crisis is one of the major topics on the daily agenda and will also be featured in the new edition of Carballo Interplay, hosted by comedian Ana Polo. In the show Aquí no hay quien viva, Polo will follow the format of El Precio Justo to speak with the audience about current housing prices in Galicia.

The festival is organized by the Carballo City Council and Carballo Tourism with support from the A Coruña Provincial Council and AGADIC.
